IBPS Common Written Exam Specialist Officer III Tips and Tricks

A special window to enter into top banks as a Specialist Officer is coming up - the IBPS Common Written Exam for Specialist Officers III. The IBPS conducted recruitment uses written tests and interviews to place competent workers with participating banks. Paper Pattern

The examination will be held online and consist of objective type multiple choice questions divided into 4 sections with 50 questions per section. The exam (all 4 subjects) is to be completed in a duration of 2 hours. Negative marking is applicable.
1. Reasoning - 50 marks
2. English Language - 25 marks
3. General Awareness with special reference to the Banking Industry (for those applying for posts of Law officer or Rajbhasha Adhikari) OR Quantitative Aptitude (for all other fields) - 50 marks
4. Professional Knowledge - 75 marks

Tips

  • The reasoning section is based on testing your logical thinking skills. Practice solving puzzles to improve your logical thinking skills
  • Analogies are very commonly asked; understand the concept behind analogies and practice as many as you find. Remember to check the answer after you have made your best attempt so you can find out if your answer was correct
  • Revise basic English grammar from any grammar book or from Class 10th level English
  • Vocabulary is important to score high marks, although there is no quick solution to improving your vocabulary, glance through a thesaurus for help with understanding synonyms, antonyms and increasing vocabulary
  • Quantitative aptitude focuses on basic mathematical skills. To prepare focus on speed rather than studying in depth
  • Focus your studying on calculation, estimation and approximation methods rather than lengthy formulae
  • However do study statistics from Class 10th level to help in quick responses
  • During the exam use elimination technique if you are not sure of the answer, if you still cannot decide on a single answer skip the question to avoid negative marking
  • Try to be up to date with at important banking/financial events of the past 5 years for the General Awareness with special reference to the Banking industry section
  • Also make sure you know the important banking facts such as years, acronyms etc
  • The professional knowledge section is worth the most marks out of the entire paper; use this to your benefit
  • Revise important concepts from your undergraduate studies
  • Study relevant applications of your field with the banking position you are applying for as such questions are more likely to be asked
  • Practice as many sample papers/previous year papers as possible, this will help you understand the pattern of the test and also identify the weak areas in your preparation
A strong foundation goes a long way and the same is true for IBPS exams. However, to be short listed for the next round of recruitment, the interview, it's required that the candidate meet the cut off of each individual subject as well as the aggregate cut off.
