Totey Ud Gaye Meaning

Ek Thi Daayan features a beautiful song called Tote Ud Gaye [literal word-for-word translation: parrots flew off], sung by Suresh Wadkar and written by none other than Gulzar.

The title of the song as such may sound simple, but then it's an idiom and has nothing to do with parrots really. The meaning of tote udna is to get into a bad situation where everything suddenly goes out of your hand, making you helpless, and maybe vulnerable. So when they say, haathon ke tote ud gaye, it means the heart (they're talking to about the heart in the song), which is all happy and joyful, suddenly falls and everything goes out of its hand.
